The Saddlery Training Centre Ltd.
The Saddlery Training Centre opened in September 2000 and has since become established as the only centre to offer the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme and also its bespoke range of courses which aim to support those in the trade whether they are apprentices or saddlers wishing to update their skills and gain qualifications.
The centre works in close association with The Saddlers Company, The Society of Master Saddlers, City & Guilds, ABC Awards, Skillset, Haddon Training Ltd and the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA).
The Centre has been approved to deliver the Governments Modern Apprenticeship Scheme and is an approved assessment centre for the City & Guilds National Saddlery Skill Assessment and Qualification Scheme for the Saddlery Trade. The awarding bodies are the City and Guilds of London Institute and The Saddlers’ Company. In a recent Ofsted inspection the Centre was graded outstanding for the quality of training provision and in the support of candidates during their training programme.
The Saddlery Training Centre aims to offer a flexible approach to individual training requirements and offers the following schemes of training:
- The Modern Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Haddon Training Ltd and is designed to assist apprentices learn their trade.
- The New Entrants Training Scheme is suitable for those not eligible for an apprenticeship but who will benefit from a structured training programme over a period of time. The scheme aims to assist candidates gain the necessary City & Guilds qualifications so that they are eligible to apply for membership of the Society of Master Saddlers.
- Our programmes of short courses are more suitable for those who are already working in the trade but wish to increase their skills and knowledge in specific areas. Saddle Making, Side Saddle Refurbishment and Manufacture, Harness Making and more are all available and we can usually tailor a course to individual needs. We have two specialist consultants, Richard Godden and John McDonald who are experts in the areas of side-saddle and collar/harness making. In recent years John McDonald has delivered the collar making course from his workshop but candidates can make enquiries through us.
