SHORT COURSE PROGRAMME:

The Short  Courses are designed for saddlers, apprentices, improvers and leather- workers who are employed in the saddlery or leather trade.

How is the training delivered?
The training takes the form of short intensive courses therefore minimising any disruption to business.
 All training courses are held at The Saddlery Training Centre in Salisbury.
The training is delivered in small groups with normally a maximum of six trainees.

GOVERNMENT APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME:

The Level 2 Leather Craftsperson Apprenticeship is intended for those who are recently employed and starting to learn their trade. Successful applicants will attend The Saddlery Training Centre for part of their off the job training, this will involve attending the centre for a week of intensive training every two months for approximately 12 – 15 months.

The Level 3 Bespoke Saddler Apprenticeship is intended for those who have completed the Level 2 or who have already gained intermediate skills in Saddlery. Successful applicants will attend The Saddlery Training Centre for part of their off the job training, this will involve attending the centre for a week of intensive training every two months for approximately 20 – 24 months.

NEW ENTRANTS TRAINING SCHEME:


The New Entrants Training Scheme is primarily designed for apprentices and trainees who are not eligible for the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme.
Applicants for this training scheme will normally have been training for a minimum of six months in order to ensure that they have had sufficient time to establish aptitude and commitment.

How is the training delivered?
Normally 16 one week modules spread over a three year period. Sessions are held at The Saddlery Training Centre.
The training is delivered in small groups with normally a maximum of six trainees.

CITY & GUILDS QUALIFICATIONS

The Saddlery Training Centre is an approved centre for The City & Guilds National Skill Assessment and Qualification Scheme for the Saddlery Trade.

Candidates are able to attend preparatory courses for City & Guilds Skill Assessments.

The gaining of these qualifications is a requirement for membership of The Society of Master Saddlers.

We are able to advise on the necessary standards for attaining qualifications and can support candidates in preparing themselves for assessments.
