Who can apply?

The New Entrants Training Scheme is primarily designed for apprentices, aged normally between 16 and 25, employed in firms in a rural area of England with a population of less than 10,000. Applicants from other areas may be accepted if places are available.

Applicants for this training will normally have been employed for at least six months in order to ensure that apprentices and employers have sufficient time to establish aptitude and commitment.

How is the training delivered?

The training takes the form of 16 one week modules spread over a three year period. Sessions are held at The Saddlery Training Centre. The training is delivered in small groups with normally a maximum of six trainees. Apprentices will be required to undertake some course work at their place of work in between modules. This will normally be in prior agreement with the employer.

The City & Guilds National Skill Assessment and Qualification Scheme for the Saddlery Trade is the recognised qualification within the trade.

The choice of course must largely depend upon the applicant's skill and experience. Candidates cannot expect to gain full advantage from a course involving techniques too far in advance of their knowledge and skill. It is therefore in their best interests that the syllabus for each course is carefully read and understood before an application form is completed. Places cannot be reserved until a completed application, together with the appropriate fee, has been received.
